Training Week 11

Hi everybody! I hope you had a lovely holiday! Training week 11 was a total blur between hosting Thanksgiving and decorating for Christmas. The only run I even really remember was yesterday's 10 miler, so I'm just going to talk about that one instead of giving you a run down of the entire week.

When I set out for the run yesterday, I wasn't exactly looking forward to running 10 miles, but since it was my final long run before race day, it was a little bitter sweet. It felt strange to know that I never had to get out of bed on a Sunday morning again to knock out a training run if I didn't want to. The first six miles or so felt good and I was cruising along. However, by the time I hit the 10k mark I was mentally so over it. Physically I was tired and sore, but not any worse than usual. In my mind I had completely checked out. I'm not sure why, but it probably had something to do with the fact that I had eaten myself into a lazy stupor for the past 4 days and had skipped a couple workouts (whose surprised? nobody?). I just wanted to stop. The last 3 to 4 miles were tough. I walked, then ran, then walked, then ran. I wanted to stop SO BAD at mile 8 because I was really close to my house, but I kept going. It felt like I was never going to finish. Not gonna lie, 10 miles was hard. It took me 2:15:38 and its hard to imagine tacking on an additional 3.1 miles to that.



I'm determined to eat a balance diet for the rest of this week, cut alcohol out completely, and get lots of rest. I'm also going to stick to my training schedule and not skip a single day. I think if I do all those things it will make the race a little easier. 
 
I know I can finish the race on Sunday, but I'm not sure how easy or fun it's going to be. Finishing won't be hard, but getting to the end sure as hell will be. I don't know how it's going to turn out. All I know is six days from now I am going to cross the finish line at my first half marathon and it is all going to be worth it.

  1. Keep up the good work! Crossing that finish line is all worth it in the end. No matter how fast or slow it's an amazing accomplishment!

  2. It's totally understandable that you had a tough run after taking 4 days off. Bravo to you for finishing though. All of your hard work will pay off in the end! Are you running the race by yourself?

    1. Thanks Luisa! And yup, just me, myself and I! It's a girls only race so my husband couldn't run it with me (not that he would anyway) but he and some other family members will be at the finish line to cheer me on :)

    2. Well good luck! It's so much tougher training and then running long races on your own. Takes a lot of discipline which makes you all the more inspiring! Thank goodness for cheering family members!
